NTB Governor: KMP Putri Yasmin Fire Incident a Lesson for All
West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal has expressed hope that the fire aboard the KMP Putri Yasmin in the waters of the Lombok Strait in the early hours of Wednesday can serve as a valuable lesson for everyone to make improvements in the future.
“We have received the report. God willing, we will try to handle it. I have ordered the Head of the Transportation Agency to head to the location. The Minister of Transportation, according to information, will also be arriving there shortly. What is clear is that this is a matter of special attention,” he told reporters after a coordination meeting on preparations for the Mandalika MotoGP in Mataram on Wednesday.
He acknowledged that his administration will coordinate with ASDP, given that the management of the Lembar–Padangbai ferry crossing is operated by the state-owned enterprise.
“This coordination is to ensure that the facilities are in good condition,” Iqbal stressed.
Nevertheless, Iqbal stated that the fire incident involving the KMP Putri Yasmin in the waters of the Lombok Strait must serve as a collective lesson for all to make improvements in the future.
It is known that the fire incident involving the KMP Putri Yasmin in the waters of the Lombok Strait, NTB, occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. Based on preliminary reports, 106 passengers were successfully evacuated, both to Bali and to Lombok, NTB.
The Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, said the incident was reported to have occurred at 04.15 WITA while the vessel was en route from Padangbai Port in Bali to Lembar Port in West Lombok, NTB.
The Mataram SAR Office received the emergency report at 04.39 WITA and immediately deployed personnel to carry out the evacuation process.
This SAR operation involved a coordinated effort from various parties, including the Mataram SAR Office, the Denpasar SAR Office, KMP PortLink II, KAL Lembar, the Indonesian Navy, the West Lombok Police, the West Lombok Water and Air Police, the Lembar Port Harbourmaster, a yacht, SGi Air Bali, local residents, and other relevant parties.
