NTB Government Disburses IDR 400 Million for Revitalisation of Kuta Mandalika Market

The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government has allocated a budget of IDR 400 million for the revitalisation of the Kuta Mandalika People’s Market in Central Lombok. The renovation is being carried out due to persistent complaints from traders and residents.

Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal stated that the project involves improving the layout and design while ensuring the market retains its traditional character, given its location within the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK) tourism area. “We are helping to improve the layout and design so that it remains tidy, but its traditional impression must be maintained because it is located in a tourist area,” Iqbal said during a site inspection on Tuesday.

Iqbal also requested that the entrance to the market area be widened to ensure a more even distribution of visitors and tourists to all traders’ stalls. Beyond the physical structure, the Governor is pushing for better market management. He expressed a desire for the market’s fresh produce to be directly absorbed by the surrounding tourism industry. “Going forward, we will coordinate with the Industry and Trade Office so that the market management is more orderly. We want fresh goods from this market to be directly channelled to restaurants and hotels in the area,” he added.

Dewi, the Commitment Making Officer (PPK) from the NTB Public Works Office, explained that the technical work currently focuses on expanding access and improving sanitation. The area previously designated for selling fish, meat, and chicken, which had been neglected, is being revitalised with new concrete flooring. The project also includes reorganising trader zones; vegetable and fruit traders who previously sold outside will be relocated into the main building, while the front area will be designated for pearl shops and integrated parking.
