Mataram (ANTARA) - H Didi Sumardi, a member of Commission V of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Regional Representative Council (DPRD), has called for tighter and more systematic supervision of child daycare facilities, particularly in the Mataram city area.

Didi Sumardi in Mataram on Thursday stated that supervision must no longer be sectoral or partial, but requires a structured system under the control of local leaders, whether governors or mayors, to ensure that every child care institution operates according to safety standards.

“Supervision must involve all relevant elements, from regional device organisations (OPD), police, to the smallest units in the community environment,” he said.

The statement was made by Didi Sumardi following a recent child abuse case at one of the daycares in Yogyakarta, which has brought the issue of child safety in daycares in Mataram City into the spotlight.

Given the rapidly growing number of daycares that tend to occur in urban areas, a structured supervision system involving all layers of society has now become a top priority.

Although existing regulations, from laws, Government Regulations (PP), to Regional Regulations (Perda), are already adequate, the biggest challenge lies in optimising field supervision.

“The public is also urged to be more sensitive to the surrounding environment. This sensitivity is important so that any indications of irregularities or violence can be quickly detected and reported,” he said.

Didi stated that to strengthen the child protection system, there are three main points that will be promoted: a quick reporting system by building easily accessible reporting channels for the public, which are not convoluted and receive quick responses from authorities.

Then, law enforcement by providing firm and harsh actions against violators to create a deterrent effect, because child social rights protection is part of human rights (HAM).

Furthermore, conducting identification and anticipation. In this regard, authorities must identify child care institutions in Mataram as an anticipatory step so that similar cases do not occur in the area.
