NTB BPBD incorporates disaster resilience into Sade Traditional Hamlet reconstruction

The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD NTB) has confirmed that disaster resilience will be an integral part of the rehabilitation and reconstruction of residential areas in Sade Traditional Hamlet, Central Lombok Regency.

Head of BPBD NTB Sadimin said that the handling of the Sade Traditional Hamlet fire is currently still in the emergency response phase.

“There will be many improvements going forward. At present it is only the emergency response stage, and later it will proceed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan,” Sadimin said in Mataram on Friday.

Sadimin explained that the reconstruction is not only aimed at rebuilding the traditional houses affected by the fire, but also at reorganising the area to make it safer and better prepared to face potential disasters.

One aspect of particular concern is access for fire engines to the traditional settlement area, which has been a constraint during fires.

Rehabilitation and reconstruction teams from several universities have also arrived to assist the government in preparing recovery plans for the affected area.

“The recovery momentum is expected to be an opportunity to reorganise the Sade traditional house area to be safer and more resilient to disasters,” Sadimin said.

According to previous reports, Sade Traditional Village caught fire at around 10.00 pm local time on 22 August 2026.

Sade Traditional Hamlet is one of the oldest traditional villages on Lombok Island, dating back to the 16th century and passed down through 15 generations.

Among domestic and international tourists, the village is renowned as a cultural destination that strongly maintains the various traditions of the Sasak people.
