NPEA Managers Ensure Fishermen's Access and Maritime Safety in Cilincing as Priorities
JAKARTA — Managers of the New Priok Eastern Access (NPEA) project have assured that construction in the Cilincing area of North Jakarta continues to prioritise fishermen’s access and maritime safety.
This statement follows protests by fishermen at Muara Cakung Drain, who raised concerns about the project’s impact on their seafaring activities.
Pelindo’s Group Head of Company Secretariat, Ali Sodikin, stated that all project activities comply with applicable regulations while considering maritime aspects.
“All activities are carried out in accordance with applicable provisions and take into account safety aspects, smooth navigation routes, and environmental sustainability,” he said in an official statement received by Kompas.com on Thursday (16/4/2026).
“Pelindo respects every aspiration expressed by the community, including the fishermen in the Cilincing area,” he added.
He further noted that Pelindo is continuously coordinating with various agencies to ensure the project runs smoothly and is open to dialogue with affected communities.
“We are also continuously coordinating with relevant agencies and open to dialogue with the community, including fishermen,” he said.
Meanwhile, NPEA Section 2 Project Manager from PT PP, Ikhsan Budi Prasetyo, assured that safety and navigation access aspects have been integral to the project planning from the outset.
“Indeed, in its implementation, our planning always prioritises safety, security, and comfort, including access routes for those utilising the waters, especially for fishermen,” he told Kompas.com on Thursday.
He explained that the project is designed to provide navigation routes for fishing vessels of various sizes, with two main accesses approximately 60 metres wide and 18 metres high.
Ikhsan added that during the construction process, they are preparing various safety markers, such as lights, buoys, and route indicators, to ensure the security of fishermen’s navigation.
“Of course, during implementation, there might be concerns about propellers being affected or something like that, so we must ensure that our construction equipment on site is safe and provide sufficient markers so that they are not hit by fishermen’s boat propellers,” he added.
Previously, a number of fishermen at Muara Cakung Drain in Cilincing, North Jakarta, held a boat parade as a form of protest against construction around the estuary on Tuesday (14/4/2026) afternoon.
