NPCI Welcomes Multi-Year Budget Support for National Training Camp
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Paralympic Committee Indonesia (NPCI) has responded positively to President Prabowo Subianto’s support for implementing a multi-year budget scheme for the National Training Camp (Pelatnas). The policy is considered a strategic step in maintaining the continuity of athlete development towards international achievement.
NPCI Deputy Secretary General Rima Ferdianto expressed appreciation for the support given by President Prabowo to the proposal from Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Erick Thohir regarding the multi-year budget for Pelatnas. According to him, funding sustainability is a key factor in long-term athlete development.
“We greatly appreciate Mr. Menpora Erick Thohir regarding the multi-year budget which received support from Mr. Prabowo Subianto. Because one of the keys to long-term development is an uninterrupted Pelatnas,” Rima said in a statement via NPC Indonesia received on Tuesday (23/6).
Support for the multi-year funding scheme was conveyed by President Prabowo after listening to a presentation by Menpora Erick Thohir during a meeting in Hambalang, West Java, on Friday (19/6).
Rima assessed that the policy represents a concrete step by the government to help athletes achieve success. With a Pelatnas that runs without interruption, coaches can design training programmes continuously and measurably to achieve the athletes’ best performance. “With an uninterrupted Pelatnas, coaches will easily be able to programme the athletes to reach their peak performance. When Pelatnas is interrupted, coaches will struggle to determine programmes for athletes to return to their best performance,” he said.
The presence of this regulation is considered to complement Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021 concerning the Grand Design for National Sports (DBON). In the DBON, the government has designated a number of priority sports along with the major target of bringing Indonesia into the world’s top five at the 2045 Olympics and Paralympics.
Similar support was conveyed by the Coordinator of Indonesian Para Athletics Coaches, Purwo Adi Sanyoto. He assessed that the implementation of a multi-year budget will provide certainty in structuring training programmes and preparing athletes for various international championships. According to Purwo, the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics is one of the main targets for Indonesian para athletics. As a priority sport in the DBON, para athletics is expected to once again contribute medals for the Red and White contingent. “Para athletes are greatly helped by this multi-year budget scheme so they can continue to deliver achievements for Indonesia,” he concluded.
