Nowhere to go

Nowhere to go

Know where to go in Jakarta? The Jakarta Post's April 2 itinerary, guides us to a detour via Bali.

Journalism was once concerned with who, what, where, when and why. Reading the gory details of violence, rapes and sexual assaults as reported in the papers nowadays, one wonders if today's journalism restricts itself to who, what and with whom. Taboos are definitely disappearing fast and sensationalism sells.

Instead, by focusing on the positive happenings around us, the dailies can create an upbeat feeling, for people to find something to feel good about and start each day in a refreshingly encouraging mood.

I feel, The Jakarta Post has become required reading for the English speaking community in Indonesia.

Does this generalization apply to the very editorial staff of the Post? Take the case of the Sports Page. In the "Your Letters" column there have been a couple of requests for stating the name of the sport, as a sub-heading, for all the sports events that are covered in The Jakarta Post. Somehow, to date, this simple request has not been granted.

Hopefully, my above comments will be taken sportingly!
