His post triggered a wave of sympathy and anger among netizens. In his lament, he admitted to having waited for eight hours without getting a room. Yurizal chose not to disclose the identity of the hospital where he was being treated. ‘8 hours and still haven’t got a room. I don’t want to expose the hospital because I use BPJS,’ Yurizal wrote on his personal Threads account on 22 July 2026.

Instead of receiving support, the post was met with cynical comments from several social media users. Some accounts claiming to be healthcare workers and doctors also left comments perceived as lacking empathy. ‘If it’s full, where do you want to be moved? To the floor? It has nothing to do with BPJS or not, many people use it, so naturally many are hospitalised, not just you. If you want to move quickly, the morgue is always empty. Annoying, healthcare workers/hospitals and even the government through BPJS are trying to help, but the public acts like this,’ wrote a doctor under the account @bennychrstn. Another healthcare worker with the account @widhiyarini commented, ‘Just cut your artery, you’ll get a room quickly.’ A doctor with the account @erudahaadini wrote, ‘Your profile picture looks like you have, but in reality you haven’t? Haven’t some brain cells.’

A few days after the post, the family announced that Yurizal Tri Chaerawan had passed away on 31 July 2026. The family stated that the deceased received delayed treatment when his condition was already very critical. ‘Yurizal, the sender, is my cousin. He passed away on 31 July because the hospital handled him too late when he was already in a critical condition. Please forgive my cousin for complaining like this on Threads. Previously, he never told anyone about his illness, not even his family, he kept everything to himself. Please, no more hate here,’ wrote the Threads account @hilperd. The tragic news triggered a wave of public criticism, with many questioning the empathy of the healthcare workers and doctors who had previously made disparaging remarks about his complaint.
