Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro Launches 'Wave of Change' Campaign to Commemorate World Ocean Day
To mark World Ocean Day in June, Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro has officially announced a series of environmental agendas titled ‘Wave of Change’. Collaborating with the local environmental organisation Aksi Konservasi Yogyakarta (4K), the global organisation WWF, and the FTI UAJY Student Senate, this initiative is designed to raise public awareness regarding the sustainability of marine ecosystems, specifically focusing on sea turtles and plastic waste recycling. The World Ocean Day agenda also aligns with ACCOR’s annual global programmes.
Through this campaign, Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malasting is not only committing to being an eco-friendly accommodation provider but is also taking an active role as an agent of change in educating the public, particularly the younger generation in the Yogyakarta region and its surroundings. The baby sea turtle release programme includes various beneficial activities, ranging from beach patrols, sea turtle habitat education, and coastal clean-ups to the release of hatchlings along the shores of Pantai Pelangi, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Plastic collected from the coastline will be utilised in workshops to create eco-friendly keychains and pouches. Additionally, Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro is conducting a CSR programme for the local community, specifically providing wearable clothing donations for those working as fishermen.
The ‘Wave of Change’ 2026 agenda includes:
Sea Patrol (06 June 2026): Patrol and cleaning actions in coastal areas to protect sea turtle nests.
Baby Sea Turtle Release (07 June 2026): The release of hatchlings as an effort to maintain the population of protected marine fauna at Pantai Pelangi.
Keychain Workshop Using HDPE Plastic (13 June 2026): A child-friendly workshop focused on creating keychains through the recycling of HDPE plastic.
Pouch Workshop Using Recycled Plastic (21 June 2026): Creative education on transforming plastic waste into eco-friendly shopping pouches.
“In line with ACCOR’s programme, Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro shares the same spirit as our partners from 4K and the FTI UAJY Student Senate. We are committed to ensuring that today’s event is not merely an annual ceremony, but rather a starting point for commitment to real action. Marine protection is not the duty of a single institution or a single nation; it is a responsibility for us all,” said Novi Soesanto, General Manager of Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro.
Through this World Ocean Day momentum, the hotel and ACCOR invite all levels of society—from the government and industry players to individuals—to transform commitment into tangible action.
