Novita Hardini promotes waste-management awareness through GCC programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Novita Hardini, a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR), is encouraging residents of Trenggalek, East Java, to become more aware of waste management through the Green Community Championship (GCC) programme.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Novita said people still tended to dispose of waste carelessly, even though it could be sorted and classified, for example as household waste or residual waste.
She said public awareness of waste management needed to be strengthened so that waste would not become a serious problem threatening environmental sustainability and public health.
For that reason, she initiated the GCC programme to raise awareness about waste. It is being carried out in collaboration with the Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) at regency, sub-district and village levels in Trenggalek, East Java.
“We are holding the Green Community Championship not merely as a celebration; our aim is to reach people at the grassroots. Every household should understand that keeping clean and sorting waste is tantamount to safeguarding our children and grandchildren in the future,” she said.
Novita said the GCC programme also helped the government realise its net-zero carbon vision while preserving nature for future generations.
She also hoped that sorted waste could become a new source of income for local communities.
“In a situation like this, we must be creative about the importance of food security, starting with children from an early age,” she said.
