Novel Baswedan Concerned That Andrie Yunus Case Will Be Handled Superficially: Perpetrators Will Also Receive Light Sentences
Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan stated that the handling of attacks on activists has often not been conducted seriously. This refers to the acid splashing case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. He assessed that perpetrators are frequently given light sentences and the interests of victims are inadequately addressed. “From the beginning, there has been concern that the attempted premeditated murder case against Andrie Yunus will be handled superficially, and the perpetrators will be punished lightly,” Novel said via his personal X account, which Kompas.com was permitted to quote on Wednesday (8/4/2026). “It’s very wicked; not only are the perpetrators not fully prosecuted, but the victim is also slandered,” Novel added. Therefore, he urged the establishment of an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to uncover the case allegedly committed by four TNI BAIS personnel. “I support and urge the formation of an independent TGPF to uncover the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus,” Novel stated. According to Novel, the formation of this independent TGPF aims to ensure that the investigation into the acid splashing against Andrie Yunus proceeds honestly and objectively. “In this case, the actual evidence is very complete; if the process goes through the military court only superficially, it will be evident,” he emphasised. In this regard, Novel admitted to being surprised by the transfer of the case files of the four TNI BAIS personnel in the acid splashing case against activist Andrie Yunus to the Military Prosecutor’s Office II-07 Jakarta. “I was shocked to read the news that the acid splashing case files against Andrie Yunus have been transferred to the Military Prosecutor. Hasn’t Andrie Yunus been examined yet?” Novel wrote. The TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) TNI transferred four Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) TNI personnel as perpetrators of the acid splashing against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, to the Military Prosecutor’s Office (Otmil) II-07 Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Not only that, the Head of TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) TNI Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah revealed that the case files and evidence were also transferred to Otmil II-07 Jakarta.
