Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Debut in Distinct Styles
Jakarta — Nothing has officially unveiled its latest smartphones, the Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, both displaying distinctive design languages. The Nothing Phone (4a) appears more minimalist with a pill-shaped rear camera module. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro adopts a bolder look with a camera module that covers the top portion and a dedicated display on the back showing a dot matrix to users. According to Gizmochina on Thursday, 5 March, the two phones will run the same Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16. Both are promised three major OS updates and six years of security updates. Let us dissect the specifications of both, starting with the Nothing Phone (4a).
Nothing Phone (4a)
The phone maintains a simpler design than its predecessor, with a pill-shaped rear camera module and a new back lighting system called Glyph Bar. Glyph Bar places LEDs in a straight strip at the back. The bar is divided into six segments and contains 63 LEDs, together with a red recording indicator. The lights can reach brightness up to 3,500 nits in three brightness levels, which is around 40 percent higher than the previous generation. Under the hood, the phone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor paired with 8GB or 12GB RAM and storage up to 256GB. For the front, the phone features a 6.78-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1224 x 2720 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. In terms of cameras, it features a 50MP main camera with a Samsung GN9 sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 32 MP front camera. The battery capacity is 5,080 mAh with 50 W charging support. The phone is set to enter Europe, the United Kingdom, and India with three memory configurations: 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM priced at 32,000 Rupees (about Rp5.9 million), 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM priced at 35,000 Rupees (about Rp6.4 million), and 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM priced at 38,000 Rupees (about Rp7 million).
Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
One of the most notable differences between the Pro and regular version is the design. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro introduces a Glyph Matrix that becomes a circular LED display at the back of the phone with 137 LEDs. Although fewer in number than the Glyph Matrix on the Nothing Phone (3), the LEDs on this new phone are larger and brighter. Material also differentiates the Pro from the regular version, with a metal unibody on the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, giving a strong premium feel compared to the regular version that uses plastic. The third differentiator between the Pro and regular versions lies in the chipset: the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro uses a higher-end chip, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The display is also larger and faster than the regular model. It has a 6.83-inch OLED panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,260 x 2,800 pixels. The peak brightness reaches 5,000 nits. For the cameras, the Pro features a 50MP main camera with a Sony Lytia 700C sensor. There is also a periscope telephoto lens with a 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor offering 3.5x optical zoom and up to 7x digital zoom. The ultrawide lens is 8MP with an IMX355 sensor. Meanwhile, the front camera is 32 MP. Like the regular version, the phone carries a 5,080 mAh battery and 50 W fast charging. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, in addition to Europe, the United Kingdom, and India, will also be released in the United States. As for price, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is sold at ₹40,000 for 8GB/128GB, ₹43,000 for 8GB/256GB, and ₹46,000 for 12GB/256GB.
