Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has begun discussing staffing or recruitment for Calon Aparatur Sipil Negara (CASN), including Calon Pegawai Negeri Sipil (CPNS) for 2026. Several factors will be considered in the decision-making process. “Not yet, we are finalising it, we are formulating it,” he explained after a meeting with relevant ministers at the Ministry of Defence office, quoted on Wednesday (18/3/2026). However, he assured that all attending ministers had conveyed their respective needs. The current fiscal capacity will certainly be a consideration, especially after President Prabowo Subianto requested savings measures. “If the question is about the number, we cannot yet provide a definite figure. But if the question is regarding fiscal matters, actually every year there is naturally a certain number of civil servants reaching retirement age. So, if we want to maintain fiscal prudence, we will adjust to that number,” said Prasetyo. “So, the number reaching retirement age will set the limit for our capacity to recruit new civil servants, of course, once again to implement government programmes,” he added. Prasetyo also explained the reason for holding the meeting at the Ministry of Defence, as there will be special training to be collaborated on during ASN recruitment. “Later, when we decide to conduct recruitment, we will ask the Ministry of Defence, which has facilities and educational institutions spread out, to handle the training. That is why we held the meeting at the Ministry of Defence,” he clarified. The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, President Director of Agrinas Pangan Joao Angelo De Sousa, Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan, and Minister of State Apparatus Rini Widyantini.
