Note: Seven Alternative Routes Available in Sleman if Traffic Congestion Occurs
Sleman District’s Transportation Authority (Dishub) has prepared seven alternative routes during the 2026 Lebaran exodus and holiday period. The routes are being readied to anticipate heavy traffic on main roads.
“So from Sleman Dishub we have seven alternative routes that we will use in the process of helping smooth the flow of vehicles,” said Sleman Dishub Head, Heri Kuntadi, to journalists on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Heri stated that the alternative routes are to assist travellers passing through from Klaten, Magelang, and Purworejo heading towards Yogyakarta.
These sections include an alternative route from Magelang towards Yogyakarta. Travellers can use the Pasar Tempel Market junction–City boundary road, which is 22.4 kilometres long.
A second alternative was prepared for vehicles from Solo towards Yogyakarta via the Berbah–Kalasan road to Simpang Blok O junction, approximately 9 kilometres in length.
“Then the alternative route from Wates towards Magelang can be taken through the three-way Klangon junction to the four-way Tempel junction, approximately 22 kilometres long,” he said.
Sleman Dishub also prepared an alternative route to the Tebing Breksi tourism area via the Pasar Prambanan junction to the Breksi area, approximately 5.4 kilometres long.
Another alternative route is from Wates towards Yogyakarta via the Klangon junction to the four-way Pelemgurih junction, approximately 15 kilometres long.
Furthermore, an alternative route from Magelang towards Prambanan can be taken via the Pasar Tempel junction to the Ramayana Bogem junction, approximately 30.6 kilometres long.
“Whilst for buses from Magelang towards Prambanan, a route is prepared via the Pasar Tempel junction to the Proliman Bogem junction, approximately 28.5 kilometres long,” he said.
Accident-Prone Locations in Sleman
Beyond preparing alternative routes, Sleman Dishub also mapped several road segments prone to accidents during the exodus period.
Several include Selokan Mataram road in Cupuwatu Kalasan, Kalasan–Potrojayan road or Opak Raya Road, and Karangnongko–Babadan road or Kalimati Road.
Then Sorogenen–Sidorejo road or Candi Sambisari Road, Turi–Tempel road at Ngablak four-way junction, Sumber–Pelem road or Raya Berbah Road, and Glondong–Tegalrejo road or LPMP Road.
Additionally, there is Dayu–Krapyak road or Kaliurang Timur Road, Potrojayan–Kenaran road, and Kenaran–Losari road or Raya Pereng Road.
Congestion-Prone Locations in Sleman
Sleman Dishub also identified several road segments prone to congestion during the exodus period. These include Wates Road, Solo Road, and Magelang Road, which are national roads.
“Regarding congestion-prone routes, these main routes are prone to congestion, particularly the Prambanan toll road where congestion potential is very high,” he said.
Additionally, congestion is also anticipated on Godean Road and several routes leading to tourism destinations such as the Tebing Breksi area, the Ibarbo area, and routes to the Kaliurang tourism area.
“To reduce congestion on main routes as we mentioned earlier, there are alternative routes that can be used,” he concluded.
