Note: Key Benefits of QRIS for SMEs
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Small and medium enterprise (SME) owners view the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) as a vital tool for monitoring their business operations. Anandhani Anggun, 32, owner of a ayam geprek stall in Parung Panjang, Bogor Regency, uses QRIS from PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) to track transactions directly through her business account.
‘With QRIS, records are automatically updated in the account, so I just need to pull transaction statements for bookkeeping. Staff still take photos of transactions and submit reports, which I verify at closing time,’ Anandhani told CNBC Indonesia via phone on Friday (29 May 2026).
She noted that QRIS transactions from BRI are faster than other platforms she previously tried. ‘The funds are credited more quickly to the account,’ she said, adding that she has used BRI’s QRIS since 2024. Her customers from Jakarta, Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Bogor frequently use QRIS for payments, though she still accepts cash due to customer preference.
The benefits of using BRI’s QRIS for merchants include streamlined payment processes via a single QR code accepted by multiple payment apps; more efficient transactions reducing queue times; acceptance by all e-wallets with a maximum transaction limit of Rp10 million; interoperability between banks and payment service providers; support for financial inclusion; alignment with Bank Indonesia’s national non-cash payment policy; and enhanced security through national QRIS standards.
To become a BRI merchant, requirements include an active BRI account, valid KTP (identity card), business details (name, address, type), active phone number, and a valid email address.
Steps to obtain QRIS BRI include registering via the BRIMerchant app (available on Play Store or App Store) or visiting a BRI branch. Users must enter BRI account details (if none, the app guides them to open one via BRImo), verify via OTP and KTP scan, submit business information including name, address, postal code, structure, revenue, operating hours, outlets, duration, and photos of premises, create an account with phone number, email, and password, and digitally sign the agreement. Alternatively, visiting a BRI branch involves filling registration forms, submitting documents, undergoing verification, signing a cooperation agreement, and activating the account. Once approved, merchants receive a Merchant ID and QR code for transactions.
