Not Relying on Internal Funds, Telkom Seeks Strategic Partners to Develop Data Centre Business

PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has confirmed that its data centre projects will not be funded entirely from internal capital, as the company plans to bring in strategic partners. This is due to the large investment requirements, while several of the company’s other projects also demand attention and capital expenditure allocation.

Wholesale & International Service Director Budi Satria Dharma Purba explained that the company has shortlisted several prospective investors to participate in its data centre projects. There are at least two data centre business development projects in the pipeline: the second phase of the Cikarang data centre and a data centre in Batam. Both are targeted to commence in 2027.

“We see the investment requirements for data centres as quite substantial, so our strategy is not to rely solely on organic investment but to seek strategic partners,” Budi said during a virtual public presentation on Monday (7/9).

The tender process for these projects has now entered the evaluation stage, with the transaction targeted for completion by the end of 2026 at the latest. He assured that all working capital used for investment would be deployed in a disciplined manner, with the aim of achieving optimal returns, particularly for these data centre projects.

“Customer demand remains strong. Going forward, we will add data centre capacity in a disciplined way, and we continue to evaluate strategic partnership opportunities,” he said.

It is worth noting that in the first half of 2026, Telkom Group’s data centre business unit recorded a positive performance, with revenues of Rp867 billion, an 11 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. In terms of scale, the company’s total effective data centre capacity has reached 49.9 MW.
