Not March 28: Mount Rinjani hiking to reopen on 1 April 2026
Mount Rinjani hiking in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is set to reopen on 1 April 2026. Previously, all Mount Rinjani hiking routes were closed from 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026. “It will reopen again (Mount Rinjani hiking) on 1 April 2026. Also to clarify because some media cited 28 March 2026; the correct date is 1 April 2026,” said Astekita Ardiaristo, Head of the Sub-Section for Administration, Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR). “We are currently updating the features of the e-Rinjani application from past experiences; we are continually updating. During this holiday period we are updating for the iOS version as well, still under review,” he added when contacted by Kompas.com, Saturday (28 February 2026). However, Astek confirmed that the hiking quota remains as before, at 700 people per day for all hiking routes. Exactly four days before this opening, TNGR will hold Rinjani Begawe, signalling the reopening of Mount Rinjani’s hiking routes after the annual closure due to unfavourable weather, and potential hazards. Rinjani Begawe 2026 will take place on 28 March 2026 at Teras Udayana, Mataram City, NTB, with a series of events. “So we are still ironing out these activities before announcing other activities in the run-up to the opening of the hiking trails,” he concluded.
