Not Just Saving: What Young People Need to Understand About Finance
The younger generation now faces increasingly diverse financial choices, from investments to digital financial services. This situation makes the ability to manage income, expenditure, and the selection of financial products something that needs to be understood from an early age.
This was discussed at the Lampung Financial Festival 2026, held at the Novotel Bandar Lampung on 5–6 September 2026. Carrying the theme Young, Smart & Ready: Preparing Lampung’s Young Generation for the Future, the event covered a number of financial topics close to the lives of young people.
The material discussed included income and expenditure management, financial planning, investment, digital financial services, and financial habits.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that financial literacy is not only about recognising financial products, but also about understanding when and how those products are used.
“Financial literacy does not stop at understanding products or services, but also at how people are able to use them according to their respective needs and financial conditions. For this reason, BNI continues to encourage the use of financial services in a more planned and responsible manner,” Okki said in a press release on Sunday (6/9/2026).
According to Okki, this need is becoming increasingly apparent as access to financial services and digital transactions becomes easier. Young people need to understand financial management so that the decisions they make align with their needs and financial plans.
“BNI’s support for the Lampung Financial Festival is part of efforts to expand financial education to the public. We hope this activity can provide insights for the younger generation so they increasingly understand how to manage finances, plan for their needs, and use financial services wisely,” Okki said in a written statement.
On the other hand, the development of digital services has made financial activities increasingly easy to carry out via mobile phones. BNI has developed wondr by BNI, which can be used for everyday transactions as well as fund management.
For young people, more choices also mean a greater need to understand the consequences of every financial decision. Saving, for example, is one of the basic habits, but financial management also encompasses budgeting, planning for needs, understanding investment, and using digital services appropriately.
As a state-owned enterprise within the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem, he said, BNI places financial education alongside the expansion of access to financial services. Strengthening literacy is becoming increasingly relevant as financial products and transaction methods continue to evolve.
Financial capability determines not only how a person uses money today, but also how they prepare for financial needs over the longer term.
