Bandung City Government is committed to supporting the development of Waste-to-Energy Power Plants (PSEL) as a long-term solution for waste management in the Greater Bandung region. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the PSEL project is a collaborative effort across the Greater Bandung area, involving Bandung City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and even Purwakarta, marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Meanwhile, Sumedang is said to have its own waste management scheme, while Garut is planned to join the project in Legok Nangka. “This is a joint commitment to successfully implement technology-based waste management in the Greater Bandung area,” Farhan said at the Bandung City Hall pendopo on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Farhan explained that in the near future, the project will undergo review and recommendations from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Subsequently, construction is planned to be carried out by Danantara with a target timeframe of around three years. In addition to Sarimukti, Farhan also revealed plans for developing alternative sites together with the Bandung Regency government; they are currently studying two potential locations, namely in the Cicukang and Jelekong areas. “We are considering those two points for technology-based waste processing. Whether it will eventually become a PSEL or another form is still under study,” Farhan said. He added that the existence of several waste processing sites is actually needed to address the high volume of waste in the Greater Bandung region. “From Bandung City and Bandung Regency alone, waste production is already more than 3,500 tonnes per day. So we do not lack supply; rather, we need a system that can manage it well,” Farhan said.
