Not Just Producing New Batteries, IBC Will Also Recycle EV Batteries
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) President Director Aditya Farhan Arif has confirmed the readiness of electric battery production at PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia (CATIB) in 2026. CATIB is targeted to have an initial production capacity of 6.9 Gigawatt-Hour (GWh). To absorb the electric batteries derived from nickel downstream processing, IBC is encouraging the creation of a domestic market, given that the existing electric vehicle market in the country is currently dominated by non-nickel battery technology. Through government policy, the use of nickel-based electric batteries will be promoted so they can be absorbed in the local market without needing to be exported. Furthermore, IBC plans to develop battery recycling production, which will reprocess battery materials back into the production cycle.
