Not Just Price, Official Warranty Becomes a Consideration in Buying Electronics
Buying household electronic devices is not only about price, brand, and features. An official warranty is a form of protection that can provide certainty to consumers.
A warranty from the manufacturer or principal provides access to official repair centres, trained technicians, and spare parts that meet product standards and specifications.
As attention to after-sales service increases, electronics retail networks also need to ensure that the products they market have official, verified warranties from the distributor or brand principal in Indonesia. For consumers, this certainty is part of the protection for the purchased product as well as an investment value for long-term use.
President Director of Hartono Elektronik Roy Suprapto said that electronic devices are household assets designed to be used for years. Therefore, the relationship between retailer and consumer should not end when the transaction is completed.
“Customer comfort must be built from before purchase until when they need assistance afterwards. For us, the transaction is only the beginning of the relationship with the customer,” said Roy in a written statement.
In addition to ensuring the availability of official warranties, Hartono Elektronik also provides additional protection options through its Warranty Complement service. This service is offered through collaboration with an insurance company to provide protection against certain damage risks that are generally outside the scope of standard manufacturer warranty claims.
Under this scheme, consumers still have the product warranty from the manufacturer, while the Warranty Complement is an additional protection option. Consumers can choose this service according to their needs and the applicable protection terms.
“The warranty complement is not a substitute for the product warranty. This service is an additional protection option so that customers can use the product with greater peace of mind, of course in accordance with the applicable claim terms and conditions,” said Roy.
On the consumer side, after-sales protection also requires attention before purchase. Consumers are advised to check the suitability of the product type, serial number, validity period, and warranty coverage before taking home an electronic device. Purchase documents also need to be kept properly.
Purchase invoices and installation receipts, for example, can be documents required when consumers file a claim at a later date. Understanding administrative requirements from the outset can help the claim process proceed according to the provisions.
For devices that require special installation, installation must also be carried out by experts according to procedure. This step is important to reduce the risk of technical problems due to improper installation and in certain conditions can affect warranty status.
The certainty of after-sales service is in line with the mandate of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. This regulation is one of the foundations for protecting consumer rights in obtaining goods and services in accordance with the provisions.
For retailers, providing after-sales service is also part of efforts to maintain long-term relationships with consumers. An official warranty ensures consumers have a service channel when a product requires handling, while additional protection options can be used for certain risks outside the manufacturer’s warranty coverage.
