Not Just Nickel: Indonesia's Processed Steel Products Begin Entering Export Markets
Indonesia’s exports have traditionally been supported by mining commodities such as nickel. However, processed steel products from the manufacturing sector are now beginning to enter export markets, including the shipment of stainless steel pipes to Germany.
PT Stainless Prima Pipe (SPP) has conducted its inaugural export of 20 tonnes of stainless steel pipes to Germany from its production facility in the GIIC Deltamas industrial estate, Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
This export represents an initial step for the company to enter the international market, particularly in Europe. The shipment is also part of efforts to increase exports of value-added manufactured products from Indonesia.
This was explained by the President Director of PT Stainless Prima Pipe, Mustika Ali. He stated that this maiden export marks the beginning of the company’s market expansion abroad.
“This maiden export is an important milestone for us to prove that Indonesian manufactured products can compete in the global market. We are optimistic about continuing to expand our international market reach in the future,” said Mustika Ali, as quoted from a press release on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
The export launch was conducted together with the Director General of National Export Development from the Ministry of Trade, Fajari Puntodewi. During the event, the Ministry of Trade expressed support for exporting value-added manufactured products.
Through the Directorate General of National Export Development (Ditjen PEN), the government facilitates promotion via trade exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including business matching and product pitching to Indonesian trade representatives in various countries.
The government is also encouraging the strengthening of the national iron and steel industry, particularly stainless steel pipe products for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Strengthening this industry is deemed to require support from the government, businesses, and other stakeholders to improve trade practices and maintain a conducive business climate for the domestic steel industry.
General Manager of PT SPP, Edi Tandiono, stated that the company’s maximum production capacity can reach 1,100 tonnes per year. The company has also adopted international standards such as ASTM, 3A, and EN 10357.
According to him, these standards are applied to maintain product quality in line with export market requirements.
