Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi plans to issue a regulation requiring civil servants (ASN) in Central Java to cycle to the office. However, it will not apply only to ASN; the policy, issued as part of efforts to save energy consumption, will also cover mayors and regents throughout Central Java. Luthfi said he is studying the policy so that ASN, including regents and mayors in Central Java, cycle to the office. “We have already calculated it; if necessary, tomorrow on certain days all ASN will cycle with all regents and mayors. So, to the office by bicycle,” he said on Monday (30/3/2026). However, Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a picture of the technical implementation of the policy, including the scheduling for its application. “Well, we’ll calculate it later,” he said when asked whether the ASN cycling regulation would be applied every day. Besides cycling, Luthfi said another option for saving energy consumption is to use public transport. “So this will be socialised, studied, and once the government announces it, Central Java Province is ready,” said Luthfi. Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a target for energy savings in the scope of the Central Java Provincial Government. “We’re still calculating it together. Besides bicycles, if necessary, run there and back,” he said. “The WFH is also still being studied. Which days are still being studied,” Luthfi added. Currently, the Central Java Provincial Government is still waiting for a circular letter (SE) from the central government regarding the technical implementation of energy savings. He said the SE is planned to be issued on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
