Not Just Accounts, YouTube Also Blocks These Ads in Indonesia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - YouTube has stated that it complies with the PP Tunas regulation, which sets a minimum user age of 16 years. The platform has outlined its plans regarding accounts and future advertisements related to children and teenagers.
“Next, YouTube has also provided a plan for deactivating accounts and simultaneously stated that it will eliminate advertisements targeting children and teenagers in the future,” said Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, during a press conference on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Meutya stated that YouTube has officially conveyed its compliance with the PP Tunas regulation. She added that Google, the owner of the video-sharing platform, has expressed a desire to cooperate and comply from the outset but still requires time to make changes to the platform.
On the same occasion, Danny Ardianto, Head of Government and Public Policy Hub for YouTube Asia Pacific, explained that his side supports the protection of children and teenagers in Indonesia.
Regarding the process of deactivating accounts for children under 16 years old, he explained that his side will continue to work with Komdigi. The details of the process will be conveyed to the ministry.
“So we will also convey the details to Komdigi during this implementation process,” Danny said.
CNBC Indonesia observations indicate that the Google Support page has provided an update on the minimum user age requirements in accordance with the PP Tunas provisions.
With this announcement, seven platforms have complied with PP Tunas at this initial stage. In addition to YouTube, similar commitments have been made by X, BigoLive, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok.
Meanwhile, Roblox is still communicating regarding compliance. Meutya hopes that it can do the same in the near future.
“Then we also need to add that Roblox is still communicating and hopefully in the near future we can also see the same compliance,” she stated.
