Vice-Chairman of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), visited the 2026 Self-Reliant Housing Stimulus Assistance Programme (BSPS) in Magetan Regency, East Java. Ibas emphasised that the development of adequate housing is not merely a matter of physical construction, but of building human dignity and the future of Indonesian families.

Ibas stated that Ramadan teaches values of care, empathy, and the spirit of sharing, which form the critical foundation for implementing the BSPS programme as a tangible manifestation of state presence among the people.

“Today we are not merely building houses. We are building dignity,” Ibas asserted in a written statement on Saturday (28 February 2026).

“A house is not merely a roof; a house is security,” he added.

The BSPS programme represents the state’s effort to assist low-income households in obtaining adequate housing. The programme emphasises the spirit of mutual cooperation, wherein the state provides stimulus whilst the community participates actively in the development process.

During his visit, Ibas directly inspected houses of BSPS assistance recipients that had been realised for 20 families in Tinap Sub-district.

Through the programme, each recipient receives assistance of Rp 20 million to improve the condition of their previously inadequate homes.

Ibas also reminded that the right to adequate housing is guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution, Article 28H, and therefore the implementation of housing programmes must be regarded as a constitutional mandate that must be safeguarded collectively.

“Adequate housing produces reasonable hope,” Ibas said.

According to Ibas, when a house is secure, families find peace. When families are at peace, children have space to grow, learn, and dare to dream. From this foundation emerges an outstanding generation that will bring progress to villages and the nation.

Ibas also encouraged housing development to align with strengthening village potential, from robust agricultural sectors to upgraded small and medium enterprises and the emergence of achieving children.

“Every family must have aspirations. Every house must have hope,” Ibas said.

Closing his remarks, Ibas invited all communities to maintain solidarity, preserve the spirit of mutual cooperation, and continue building villages.

“If villages are strong, the nation is strong. Indonesia advances. Ramadan is spiritual; it strengthens the nation,” Ibas concluded.
