Not Immediately Expelled? 16 Suspected Sexual Harassment Perpetrators from UI Law Faculty Temporarily Deactivated
Universitas Indonesia has taken firm action in handling allegations of sexual harassment involving law faculty students. Sixteen students with official suspect status have been subjected to temporary academic deactivation as part of the campus’s internal handling process.
This policy is enforced for the period from 15 April to 30 May 2026. The decision refers to the Internal Memo on the Plan for Follow-Up Examination issued by the UI Task Force for Preventing and Handling Violence (Satgas PPK) dated 15 April 2026.
In its recommendations, the Task Force officially requested that the student status of the suspects be frozen temporarily.
UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, emphasised that this step is part of preventive administrative procedures. The aim is to maintain the objectivity of the examination process while protecting all involved parties.
“During the deactivation period, the suspects are not permitted to participate in any educational activities or teaching and learning processes, including lectures, academic guidance, or other activities related to academic pursuits,” said UI Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs Erwin Agustian Panigoro in his statement on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
“UI has established temporary academic deactivation for 16 suspected students for the period from 15 April to 30 May 2026,” he explained.
During this period, the students in question are not only prohibited from academic activities but also have restricted access to the campus environment. They are only permitted to attend if related to examination interests by the Satgas PPK or in urgent conditions that cannot be postponed, under university supervision.
“During the deactivation period, the suspects are not permitted to participate in any educational activities or teaching and learning processes, including lectures, academic guidance, or other activities related to academic pursuits,” Erwin stressed.
Additionally, the university has imposed restrictions on the suspects’ involvement in student organisation activities. Strict supervision is carried out to prevent direct or indirect interactions with victims or witnesses during the investigation process.
“This step is taken as part of the university’s commitment to ensure the examination process runs objectively, protects all involved parties, and maintains a conducive academic environment,” he stated.
