Not Ghosts: What Indonesians Fear Most, According to a Pew Survey

A recent survey has revealed the things feared most by people in various countries, including Indonesia. According to a Pew Research Center report released in August 2025, several threats are considered major concerns by the global public. The survey was conducted across 25 countries. Globally, three main issues are perceived as the greatest threats. The first is the spread of false information, or hoaxes, which is considered a major threat by 72% of respondents. This concern ranks number one in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Korea. The second is the condition of the global economy, seen as a major threat by 70% of respondents. Thirdly, 69% of the world’s population is worried about terrorism. Terrorism is the biggest concern for Indonesians. As many as 87% of respondents in Indonesia consider terrorism a major threat to the country. Indonesia is among the group of nations, alongside Kenya, Nigeria, and Turkey, with the highest levels of concern about terrorism in the world. The list of threats feared by Indonesians is as follows: 1. Terrorism (87%), 2. The spread of infectious diseases (86%), 3. Global economic conditions (74%), 4. The spread of false information (hoaxes) online (70%), 5. Global climate change (65%).
