Not EVs, This Japanese Manufacturer Is Instead Pushing Hybrid Car Sales
Tangerang, CNBC Indonesia — The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 has become a stage for PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) to strengthen its presence in the electrified vehicle market. Unlike a number of brands that have begun aggressively offering battery electric vehicles (BEVs), Suzuki is still relying on its hybrid vehicle line-up as the backbone of its sales in Indonesia.
This strategy is reflected in the range of hybrid models displayed at GIIAS 2026, from the All New Ertiga Hybrid, Grand Vitara Hybrid and Fronx Hybrid to the New XL7 Hybrid, which is making its global debut in Indonesia. Suzuki claims the company is applying a multi-pathway strategy in facing the transition towards low-emission vehicles.
“We have a multi-pathway strategy, in the form of full BEVs, and then hybrids which we have already introduced in our line-up such as the Ertiga, XL7, Grand Vitara and Fronx,” said Donny Saputra, Deputy Managing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales, at GIIAS 2026 on Wednesday (5 August 2026).
The model drawing the most attention at this year’s show is the New XL7 Hybrid. The seven-seater SUV is the first global model to be introduced in Indonesia, with updates to its exterior and interior design as well as additional safety features. Suzuki has retained the 1,462 cc K15B engine producing around 104.7 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque, paired with SHVS technology on the Beta Hybrid and Alpha Hybrid variants.
The New XL7 Hybrid is priced from Rp301.9 million to Rp329.7 million on the road in Jakarta, while the New Zeta variant without the hybrid system is positioned as a more affordable option. On the highest variant, Suzuki has also fitted a 360 View Camera and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
“TPMS can be used as a first anticipatory tool to avoid technical problems in the middle of a journey. With consistently correct pressure, the car’s grip will remain consistent. This is a decisive factor for safety,” said Donny.
In the five-seater SUV segment, the Grand Vitara Hybrid is the option for consumers wanting more complete features. The car uses a 1,462 cc K15C DualJet engine paired with SHVS technology and a six-speed automatic transmission. A number of features such as a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, wireless charging, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and six airbags add to its appeal. The Grand Vitara is priced at Rp416 million for the GX variant and Rp419 million for the two-tone version.
Meanwhile, the Suzuki Fronx Hybrid arrives as a crossover SUV targeting urban consumers. The model uses a 1,462 cc K15C engine with SHVS technology and is available with either a manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid variants are marketed from Rp286.9 million to Rp331.3 million depending on the type and colour choice.
Suzuki’s hybrid vehicle options are also still bolstered by the All New Ertiga Hybrid, which targets the family segment. The seven-seater MPV relies on a 1,462 cc K15B engine supported by the SHVS system through an ISG and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. The Ertiga Hybrid is priced from Rp274.9 million for the GX manual type up to Rp300.8 million for the Cruise AT Two Tone variant.
