Not Closed Yet! Roy Suryo and Associates Could Still Escape Jokowi's Diploma Case by Taking This Path

Jakarta, VIVA – Amid the unfolding case of alleged accusations of a fake diploma belonging to Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, reaching the trial stage, Polda Metro Jaya has opened an unexpected opportunity. A peaceful route through the restorative justice (RJ) mechanism is still possible, even when the case is already underway. The Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner of Police Iman Imanuddin, emphasised that the decision to reconcile lies entirely with the involved parties. “If the parties agree to pursue the restorative justice mechanism, the state provides space based on the Law,” he said, quoted on Saturday, 18 April 2026. He added that the space for RJ is not only available during the investigation phase but remains open even after the case is handed over to the prosecutor and enters the trial process. “And it can be implemented both in the police investigation process, then in the prosecution process at the prosecutor’s office, or in the judicial process at the court,” he stated. This affirmation also signals that the case involving several prominent names still has the potential to end peacefully if there is an agreement between the complainants and the suspects. The Head of Public Relations Division at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner of Police Budi Hermanto, further stressed that the law is not solely about imposing punishment but also about delivering restorative justice. “When peace has been achieved, sincere apologies have been conveyed, and forgiveness has been granted by the aggrieved party, then the restorative justice approach becomes a commendable legal path,” said Budi. “Polri is present as the guardian of life, builder of civilisation, and fighter for humanity,” he added. In the case’s developments, several suspects such as Roy Suryo, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Rustam Effendi, Muhammad Rizal Fadillah, and Tifauziah Tyassuma alias dr Tifa have chosen to continue the legal process to court because they did not take the RJ route. On the other hand, three other names have already been released from the case’s clutches. Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, Eggi Sudjana, and Damai Hari Lubis received SP3 after agreeing to settle with the complainants, including Jokowi. That peaceful agreement was more than a formality. The three are said to have acknowledged their mistakes, as well as recognised the authenticity of the diploma that was previously questioned in this controversy.
