Not against U.S. products

Not against U.S. products

From Pikiran Rakyat

Many protesters have taken to the streets to protest against the American-led invasion of Iraq and many others have appealed to Indonesians to stop consuming or to boycott American products. However, have those protesters really thought about the consequences of such a boycott? Do all Indonesian people agree with these ideas? Is it possible that in this sophisticated, interconnected world we can stop using or consuming products that may be useful for us?.

The protesters should think not only about political aspects but economic advantages as well, because these protests may have an adverse affect on our economy. Can they imagine what will happen if companies belonging to these countries (in the American-led coalition) are put out of business? The answer is that many people here will lose their jobs. This will, in turn, affect our economic stability.

We are against the war, but we should not go against the products made by the countries involved in the war.
