A man with the initials MAH, who was found injured on Jalan Pati, Menteng, Central Jakarta, was not the victim of a robbery. Police have revealed that the incident was an attempted murder.

"So, the alleged theft, the stolen goods, and the entire robbery event are suspected to be fake. It was merely an alibi to obscure the actual incident," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Roby Heri Saputra on Friday (19/6/2026).

The perpetrator is a colleague of the victim. Initially, a witness identified as T reported that a robbery had occurred at the house.

"The report was of a violent theft or robbery, where according to witness statements when Polsek officers arrived at the scene, there was an injured victim and a female witness at the crime scene who explained that a robbery had been committed by two people," he stated.

T initially explained to investigators that the two individuals entered through the upper part of the house. The two perpetrators then got into an argument with MHA, prompting T to go upstairs carrying a stun gun.

"Upon reaching the upper floor, it turned out the two people had already restrained MHA. To secure MHA’s release, T, who had come up from downstairs, asked them not to harm him and offered valuables, namely 200 grams of gold bullion and approximately 300 grams of other gold jewellery," he detailed.

According to the initial statement, after the gold was handed over, the two perpetrators injured MHA. T then contacted a housemate to return home.

"That was the initial statement we received from the witness at the location. Subsequently, the Menteng Sector Police and the Central Jakarta Metro Police, led by the Mobile Investigation Unit and the State Security Unit, backed up by the Polda Metro Jaya General Criminal Investigation Directorate, traced the facts, witness statements, and evidence processed through scientific investigation," he explained.

The investigation revealed inconsistencies between the witness’s statements and the physical evidence. It was discovered that T’s account was allegedly false.

"We then found that there were no two people entering the house; rather, the assault on MHA was actually carried out by T herself," he stated.

The robbery report had been filed by T, claiming a loss of 500 grams of gold stolen by the perpetrators. This report was later determined to be false.

"Following this, the victim’s sibling filed a police report with the Metro Police against T under articles concerning grievous bodily harm and/or attempted murder with premeditation," he concluded.
