Not 70,000: This is the Actual Number of Electric Motorcycles for MBG - Not Yet Distributed
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The procurement of electric motorcycles to support the operations of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) is currently attracting public attention following widespread discussions on social media. Several videos showing two-wheeled vehicles with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) logo have sparked speculation, including regarding the number of units and the budget allocated by the government.
BGN Head Dadan Hindayana emphasised that the procurement of these vehicles is part of the 2025 budget planning and is intended to enhance the mobility of Heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) in the field.
“The procurement of these motorcycles is indeed included in the 2025 budget. Their function is to support the operations of SPPG Heads,” he stated, quoted on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
He also corrected the widely circulated information regarding the number of units, which was claimed to reach 70,000. According to him, that figure is incorrect.
“The information about 70,000 units is not true. The total realisation of electric motorcycles is 21,801 units from 25,000 units ordered for 2025,” he stressed.
Alongside this clarification, it was revealed that the motorcycles in use are suspected to be products from the Emmo brand, which is relatively new to the Indonesian electric vehicle market. Even the industrial design of these motorcycles was only registered in 2025, adding to public interest in this project.
Two models reportedly to be used are the trail type and the automatic scooter. The trail model is designed to reach areas with difficult terrain, while the scooter type is more suited for daily use in urban areas.
In terms of price, sourced from its official website, both motorcycles are in the range of Rp48 million to Rp56 million per unit.
Specifications circulating show that the trail motorcycle has a top speed of up to 80 km per hour with a range of about 70 km on a single charge. Meanwhile, its carrying capacity and high ground clearance are claimed to support use on various road conditions.
Nevertheless, to date, these motorcycles have not been distributed to end users. Dadan explained that all units must still go through administrative processes as State Goods (BMN) before they can be officially used.
“The motorcycles have not been distributed. Once everything is complete, they will first be recorded as BMN before distribution,” he clarified.
On the other hand, the presence of a large number of electric motorcycles for the MBG programme has also raised public questions about the effectiveness of their use and their urgency amid various other needs.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa commented on the viral information regarding the procurement of electric motorcycles for the operations of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) with National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stickers.
Purbaya acknowledged that last year there was indeed a budget proposal for the purchase of operational motorcycles from BGN, including for computers. However, he emphasised that the budget was rejected by the Ministry of Finance last year.
“As far as I know, last year there was a proposal for motorcycles and computers, which I believe was rejected,” said Purbaya at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
However, specifically for this year’s procurement, he could not yet confirm whether it has been approved or still rejected. According to him, it should also be rejected for this year due to the principle of budget efficiency.
“For this year, I don’t know. I will double-check again; it should receive the same treatment,” Purbaya stressed.
