Northwest, MAS sign accord
MINNEAPOLIS (AFP): Northwest Airlines and Malaysia Airlines on Thursday announced a marketing alliance that will enable them to coordinate schedules and reservations between their two flight networks.
Northwest also said it plans to inaugurate service to Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 25, operating flights three times a week from Detroit via Osaka and becoming the only U.S. airline to serve Malaysia.
Malaysian Airlines currently operates flights between Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur and between Newark, New Jersey and Kuala Lumpur.
A memorandum of understanding between the two carriers provides for joint marketing and sales programs, coordinated scheduling and code-sharing.
Through code-sharing passengers can travel under a single flight code one more than one airline on different portions of a flight.
