Northern Perimeter of Soekarno-Hatta Airport Becomes a Popular Hangout Spot

TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - The northern perimeter area of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, was crowded with residents who came to hang out and watch planes on Saturday (16/5/2026) afternoon.

Kompas.com observed that residents crowded along the side of North Perimeter Road, which directly faces the airport runway.

A number of vendors selling iced drinks, meatballs, cilok, and even sushi were selling their goods on the grass at the side of the road.

When a plane was about to take off or land, residents immediately took out their cell phones to record it.

In fact, there are signs prohibiting stopping along the area.

“Stopping is prohibited along the perimeter,” reads the sign at the location.

Despite this, the area remains a popular hangout spot. Some vendors even sell their goods right next to the prohibition sign.

The vendors immediately tidy up their banners and merchandise when they see the yellow flashing lights of a patrol vehicle.

The officers then asked residents and vendors to leave the area that is not allowed to be occupied.

They were directed to move back behind the iron fence along the perimeter.

Kiki (27), one of the vendors, said that the area is routinely crowded with residents, especially on weekends and holidays.

“I’ve been here for a year, it’s normal that it’s crowded during holidays. Especially tomorrow, Sunday, it will definitely be even more crowded,” said Kiki when met by Kompas.com at the location, Saturday.
