Northern Coastal Road Repairs Targeted for Completion Before Eid
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the government is targeting the completion of road repairs on routes used for the Eid exodus before Eid. “We request that the roads that will be used by travellers using two-wheeled vehicles be repaired,” he said at Gambir Station, Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
He said that the Ministry of Public Works has promised that the road repairs will be completed no later than 10 days before Eid.

Dudy Purwagandhi said that the road repairs carried out by the Ministry of Public Works include the Northern Coastal Road.
The Ministry of Transportation predicts that as many as 143.9 million people will travel during the 2026 Eid period.
This figure was obtained from the 2026 Eid Transportation Survey and is the basis for the government in preparing strategies to manage the flow of travellers this year.
Dudy Purwagandhi said that the projection of 143.9 million people in 2026 is slightly lower than the results of the 2025 survey, which recorded a potential of 146 million travellers.
However, the actual number at that time reached 154 million people. “We assume that in 2026, considering the relatively long holidays and the implementation of a flexible working arrangement (FWA) policy, the period of community movement can last for approximately two weeks,” said Dudy Purwagandhi, quoted from a written statement, Monday, February 16, 2026.
With these conditions, Dudy Purwagandhi said that his ministry estimates that the number of people travelling will be the same as the realization last year.
Although there is a decrease of around 1.7 percent in terms of numbers, the government remains prepared for a higher surge scenario.
Dudy Purwagandhi appealed to the public to plan their trips early and take advantage of flexible working hours to avoid peak days.
With the prediction of almost 144 million people travelling, the Ministry of Transportation emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, transportation operators, and the public to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the 2026 Eid exodus and return.
In addition, he said that the flexible working arrangement (FWA) policy can help reduce the density of community movement.
According to Dudy Purwagandhi, more flexible working arrangements allow people to arrange their travel time so that they do not accumulate on certain days.
The government has agreed to implement FWA for State Civil Servants and some private sector workers on March 16, 17, 25, 26, and 27, 2026.
Based on the results of the Ministry of Transportation’s survey, this policy is considered quite effective in reducing the potential surge in movement during the peak of the Eid exodus, which usually occurs on H-5 and H-3.
With the FWA, said Dudy Purwagandhi, the movement of travellers is expected to be more spread out in the range of H-6 to H-8 before Eid.
A similar pattern is also predicted to occur during the return flow. “The survey shows that this policy has the potential to reduce the surge on H+4 to H+6 after Eid, because some people choose to return outside the peak period,” he said.
