North Sumatra's Investment Value in 2025 Exceeds Target, Simalungun Largest Contributor to Realisation
Realisation of investment in North Sumatra Province in 2025 surpassed the target set by the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). North Sumatra recorded an investment realisation of more than Rp58 trillion in 2025, with Simalungun Regency the largest contributor.
This was revealed by Damarwulan, the Investment Coordinator at the North Sumatra Department of Investment and Integrated Services (Dinas Penanaman Modal dan Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu, PMPTSP), during a press conference at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office.
‘Tahun 2025 realisasi kita sebesar Rp58,5 triliun, sementara target dari BKPM sebesar Rp53,67 triliun,’ he said on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
Damar noted that this continued the positive trend of North Sumatra’s investment realisation over the past three years. In 2023, investments reached Rp39 trillion, absorbing 76,230 workers; in 2024, Rp48.2 trillion were absorbed by 46,232 people; and in 2025, Rp58.5 trillion accompanied by 60,133 jobs.
The sector generating the largest investment in 2025 remained Manufacturing and Pharmaceuticals, followed by Transportation, Warehousing, Food, Electricity and Gas, and other service industries.
‘We must be confident of achieving the investment realisation target by 2029 of Rp100 trillion,’ said Damar.
Damar also explained that the largest investment contributor is Simalungun Regency. He noted that the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK Sei Mangkei) has become one of the factors behind the large investment value in Simalungun, surpassing the provincial capital, Medan.
‘After Simalungun comes the City of Medan, Deli Serdang Regency, Tapsel and Langkat. From the country side, the largest realisation still comes from Singapore at 61 percent, followed by the Netherlands, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and China,’ he said.
It is known that the North Sumatra DPMPTSP continues to undertake efforts to develop investments. One of these is supervising 177 business actors in 2026. This is done to ensure the compliance of business actors in submitting the Investment Activity Report (LKPM).
The supervision will also be carried out together with the 33 regencies and cities in North Sumatra. Additionally, there will be mentoring for 200 business actors to help them fulfil their obligations.
