Medan (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of North Sumatra will host the Sumatra-wide BI Investment Day in Medan on Thursday (23/7) to strengthen inter-regional investment collaboration. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution said on Tuesday that the forum would bring together governors from across Sumatra, investors, and various stakeholders to discuss strengthening regional investment. According to Bobby, Sumatra has enormous economic potential that must be managed in an integrated manner so that it can become one of the drivers of the national economy. He expressed hope that BI Investment Day would encourage a more evenly distributed flow of investment across all regions of Sumatra, ensuring that the economic benefits are not felt by just one area. In addition to discussing regional investment promotion, the forum will also strengthen synergy between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and Bank Indonesia, including in promoting ease of doing business, strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and accelerating the electronification of local government transactions. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, Sumatra’s economy grew by 4.81 percent in 2025, contributing around 22.22 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP). Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for North Sumatra, Ameriza M. Moesa, said BI Investment Day would serve as a platform to bring together local governments, investors, and stakeholders to expand investment opportunities in Sumatra. According to Ameriza, at least five governors from Sumatra’s 10 provinces are scheduled to attend the forum to strengthen investment collaboration and promote more inclusive and sustainable regional economic growth.
