The Narcotics Investigation Directorate of the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut) is investigating a methamphetamine distribution network involving 113 kilograms of crystal meth, which is suspected to be operating across multiple provinces.

“We are still conducting in-depth investigations and pursuing the higher-level perpetrators,” stated the Director of Narcotics Investigation of Polda Sumut, Kombes Pol Andy Arisandi, in Medan on Tuesday. Andy noted that the pursuit of other suspects demonstrates the Police Regional Command’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in North Sumatra.

The suspect, an Aceh resident, is suspected of acting as a courier delivering the evidence from Langkat to Banda Aceh. During the pursuit, officers reportedly fired warning shots; however, as the suspects ignored the warnings, officers were forced to take firm and measured action.

According to interrogation results, the methamphetamine, suspected to have originated from Malaysia, reached Banda Aceh before being broken down into smaller quantities for distribution to various other cities. Furthermore, authorities are investigating allegations of document forgery, as the suspects are believed to possess several documents with different identities.

Andy stated that the network prepared various means for couriers to deceive officers, such as frequently changing accommodation, renting different vehicles, and employing other methods to disguise their identities.
