North Sumatra Pusdalops Records 3,406 Families Affected by Floods in Langkat Regency
Medan (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra Operations Control Centre for Disaster Management (Pusdalops) has recorded that 3,406 families have been affected by the floods that struck Langkat Regency. Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, Head of Emergency Management, Equipment and Logistics at the North Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that the flooding occurred on Monday (8/9). Pusdalops reported that the floods were caused by rivers overflowing due to high-intensity rainfall in the Batang Serangan and Padang Tualang sub-districts. The Batang Serangan sub-district is the worst affected, with 2,706 families impacted, whilst 700 families were affected in Padang Tualang sub-district. Yuyun, as she is familiarly known, said that various response efforts have been carried out by the local government and relevant policymakers. The local district government is coordinating with relevant authorities and providing geobags to reinforce and backfill the river embankments. Additionally, the North Sumatra BPBD is coordinating the disaster response at the affected locations. “According to reports, there are no evacuees, injuries, or fatalities,” she stated.
