The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut) has won the Best I award at the provincial level for the Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme in the 2026 Regional Government Appreciation Batch II.

The award was given in recognition of Pemprov Sumut’s commitment and performance in supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme to provide decent housing for the public. The award was received by North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution at an event in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.

Also present at the event were Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, and President Director of Kompas TV Rosiana Silalahi. The event was also attended by governors, regents and mayors from across Sumatra, the North Sumatra Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, and chairs of regional legislative councils from across North Sumatra.

“This award serves as motivation for us to continue providing decent and affordable housing for the public. For us, this is not merely an award, but also a commitment to ensuring that more people in North Sumatra have decent homes,” said Bobby.

The central government assessed that Pemprov Sumut demonstrated strong commitment in implementing the 3 Million Houses Programme.

Head of the Government Communication Agency M Qodari said the appreciation was not merely an award, but a form of state presence in meeting the basic needs of the public. According to him, the award also symbolises collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and various institutions to improve public welfare.

“Tonight we are witnesses to the synergy and collaboration between regions across Sumatra that has produced proud results. I can say this because I have seen it with my own eyes,” said Qodari in his remarks.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said the appreciation aims to create a balance between punishment and reward for regional governments.

As the Best I region in the Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme category, Pemprov Sumut received an award in the form of assistance for renovating 300 homes. In addition to Pemprov Sumut, Deli Serdang Regency also received an award as the best region in implementing the 3 Million Houses Programme. Deli Serdang Regency also received assistance for renovating 300 homes.

“This is the balance in the form of rewards and awards for high-performing regions. This event also serves as a counterbalance. We may be concerned that some regional heads are entangled in legal problems that give a negative image to regional heads as a whole. This event shows that many regional heads are also high achievers,” said Tito.
