North Sumatra Police Complete Revitalisation of 75 Bridges to Ease Public Access

The North Sumatra Regional Police have completed the construction and revitalisation of 75 Merah Putih bridges in several areas of the province to improve public access.

North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Whisnu Hermawan Februanto said the bridge construction and revitalisation was a follow-up to the order of President Prabowo Subianto through National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to facilitate public access.

“Bridge construction will not stop at the 75 units that have been completed in various regions of North Sumatra,” Whisnu said while inaugurating one of the bridges in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, on Thursday.

He said his office would continue to identify areas that need bridges as connecting access for the public.

“Not only the 75 that we have built, but we will continue to build other bridges in order to provide the best access for the community,” he said.

The bridge connects access from Deli Serdang Regency to the Binjai and Langkat areas, making it important for public mobility.

“That is one of the bridges revitalised by the Medan Metropolitan Police. It is approximately 20 metres long and can be used by vehicles weighing approximately 15 tonnes,” Whisnu said.

With the bridge, residents no longer have to rely on longer alternative routes. The bridge is also expected to improve public mobility, including for education, trade, and other economic activities.

Nationally, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reported to President Prabowo that the National Police had built and revitalised 895 Merah Putih Presisi bridges independently across 30 regional police commands.

Of that number, 874 bridges have been completed, 17 are still under construction, and four others are in the planning stage.

The completed bridges have a total length of approximately 19.2 kilometres and connect 1,314 villages.
