North Sumatra Named Best Province for Implementation of 3 Million Houses Programme
The Provincial Government of North Sumatra has been awarded first place at the provincial level for the Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme at the 2026 Batch II Regional Government Appreciation event. The award serves as evidence of the North Sumatra Provincial Government’s commitment and performance in supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme to provide decent housing for the public.
Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution received the award at a ceremony in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday (12/8/2026). The central government assessed that North Sumatra’s support and commitment to implementing the 3 Million Houses Programme was substantial. “This award motivates us to continue providing decent and affordable housing for the community. For us, this is not just an award, but a commitment to ensure more people in North Sumatra have decent homes,” said Governor Bobby.
The Head of the Government Communication Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, M Qodari, stated that the appreciation was not merely an award but proof of the state’s presence in fulfilling the basic needs of its citizens. He noted that the award symbolises collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and all institutions to improve public welfare. “Tonight we witness the synergy and collaboration between regions across Sumatra that has yielded proud results; I can say this because I have seen it with my own eyes,” Qodari said in his speech.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian explained that one objective of the award is to create a balance between punishment and reward for regional governments. As the best region in the Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme category, North Sumatra received a reward in the form of assistance for the renovation of 300 housing units. Deliserdang Regency also received an award as the best region in the same category and was granted assistance for the renovation of 300 housing units. “This is the balance in the form of rewards and awards for high-achieving regions. This event also serves as a counterbalance; we may be concerned that some regional heads are facing legal issues, which could create a negative image for regional heads overall. This event shows that many regional heads are also achieving great things,” said Tito Karnavian.
