North Sumatra Governor Supports PRSU's Inclusion in National Karisma Event Nusantara
North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has expressed support for the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII’s intention to include the North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) in the Ministry of Tourism’s Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) programme. Speaking after accompanying a specific working visit by Commission VII to the 50th PRSU in Medan on Thursday, Bobby stated that inclusion in the national agenda would position the fair as a key driver of the regional economy through the culture and tourism sectors. The Governor noted that this year’s 50th PRSU is the first held under his leadership and marks a moment of revival following the COVID-19 pandemic. He described the event, running from 3 July to 2 August 2026, as a platform to unite the potential of human resources, culture, and the creative economy in North Sumatra. He highlighted the province’s diversity, noting that while other regions might showcase a single dance, North Sumatra presents at least five ethnic groups through traditional attire, cultural parades, and dances. The Governor also urged all district and city administrations across North Sumatra to set aside sectoral egos and support the fair, observing that some regions with pavilions have not optimally utilised them to promote their local potential. The success of the 50th PRSU is not just a success for the provincial government but for all the people of North Sumatra, he added. Evita Nursanty, head of the Commission VII specific working visit team, assessed that as PRSU reaches its golden age, it must continue transforming into a more professional event that provides tangible benefits to the community. She stated the ambition is for the 50th PRSU to be not merely entertainment, but a space with broad economic and social impact, serving as a showcase for culture, MSMEs, the creative economy, and a medium for promoting tourism and regional potential. Ferry Indra, President Director of PT Pembangunan Prasarana Sumatera Utara, appreciated the Commission VII visit as a form of support. He noted that the 50th PRSU features 33 pavilions from districts and cities across North Sumatra and one from a friendly nation, with all activities funded through partnership schemes rather than the regional budget. He added that 75 per cent of the event’s content is filled by local talents, reflecting a commitment to making PRSU the main stage for local artists, cultural practitioners, and creative economy players. By the sixth day, the fair had recorded 25,511 visitors and economic transactions exceeding IDR 511 million, a figure expected to rise until the event concludes.
