Medan (ANTARA) — North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has expressed support for accelerating the construction of permanent housing (huntap) for disaster victims in affected areas across North Sumatra.

“We are requesting district and municipal governments to continue collaborating to accelerate the construction of permanent housing, so that residents still in temporary shelters can soon move into their new homes,” said Bobby following an inspection of huntap development in the Pinangsori Hajj Hostel area, Central Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, on Sunday.

The governor emphasised that infrastructure development in the permanent housing areas is the responsibility of disaster-affected districts and municipalities in North Sumatra.

According to North Sumatra provincial government data, permanent housing sites for disaster victims were designated in late November 2025 across five districts and municipalities in the province. These include South Tapanuli with seven locations across six subdistricts containing 1,444 housing units, and North Tapanuli with one location in one subdistrict containing 103 housing units.

“The cost is not that large, really. For building drainage systems and housing complex roads. If roads leading to the complexes are still damaged, as I mentioned previously, let us collaborate — the province is willing to participate,” said Bobby.

The governor has also set a target for permanent housing units to be completed and occupied by disaster victims in the five districts and municipalities before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

Bobby further emphasised that completed housing units can be immediately occupied by disaster victims without waiting for all units to be finished.

“Even waiting one day means one more day that a disaster victim’s home remains unfinished. This target is to have 50 units completed before Eid al-Fitr, and they can be occupied immediately,” said Bobby.

In addition to inspecting huntap development, the North Sumatra governor visited residents staying in temporary shelters in the Pinangsori Hajj Hostel area. Bobby also gathered various aspirations from Central Tapanuli residents he met with and ensured they would be addressed promptly.
