North Sumatra Governor Supports 2026 Regional Scout Jamboree as Youth Development Platform
Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has endorsed the 11th Regional Scout Jamboree (Jamda XI) of North Sumatra, scheduled to be held at the Sibolangit Campground, Deli Serdang Regency, from 8–12 July.
"This event is expected to be attended by thousands of participants and visitors from various regions across North Sumatra," said Bobby, who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Advisory Council (Kamabida) of the Scout Movement in North Sumatra, after receiving the provincial Scout leadership in Medan on Wednesday.
The Governor praised the innovation shown by the North Sumatra Regional Scout Council (Kwarda) in combining the fundamental values of scouting with technological advancements. The Jamboree will involve Penggalang-level Scouts, aged 11–15, from all 33 regencies and cities in North Sumatra.
"This is important so that children continue to live by scouting values without feeling like they are going back in time," Bobby stated. He noted that this approach could be an effective way to attract young people who often view scouting as an activity less relevant to modern times.
"Many think scouting is only suitable for those wanting to join university nature lover groups or study forestry. In fact, scouting offers many benefits," he added. Bobby highlighted that skills taught in scouting, such as outdoor survival, pitching tents, and social awareness, provide significant advantages in daily life and the professional world.
The Governor also commended the organisers for not burdening participants with additional fees, suggesting this concept could serve as a model for jamborees in other regions across Indonesia.
The North Sumatra Kwarda is collaborating with various agencies, including anti-narcotics bodies, to deliver drug prevention education through hands-on activities rather than purely theoretical sessions.
"This jamboree is expected to be a momentum for shaping a generation of youth with integrity, skills, adaptability to technology, social awareness, and a strong national spirit," Bobby concluded.
Kwarda North Sumatra Chairman Dikky Anugerah Panjaitan added that Jamda XI would not only serve as a gathering for Scouts but also generate economic benefits for the local community. He explained that this year’s jamboree is designed with a modern concept featuring six main zones: integrity, technology, outdoor activity, skills, games, and disaster management.
He expressed hope that the Kamabida leadership would join participants for the campfire and other jamboree activities. "This activity is expected to be a platform for nurturing a generation of youth that is creative, independent, and of strong character, ready to face future challenges," Dikky said.
