North Sumatra Governor: SMKN 1 Gido relocation construction to be completed by November
Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has targeted the first phase of construction for the relocated SMK Negeri 1 Gido in Somi Village, Nias Regency, to be completed by November 2026.
Once finished, he said, it can immediately be used to support teaching and learning activities in the second half of the 2026/2027 academic year.
“The current SMK building sits on wet farmland; even a little rain causes flooding, and there is a river mouth nearby. There have been reports of crocodiles being sighted, so it is dangerous. That is why we are moving it here,” said Bobby after inspecting the relocation construction of SMK Negeri 1 Gido in Nias Regency, North Sumatra, on Thursday.
The Governor said the relocated SMK Negeri 1 Gido specialises in Freshwater Fisheries Agribusiness (APAT) and has received full support from the Nias community.
SMK Negeri 1 Gido on Somi Beach Road, Somi Village, Nias Regency, has long been frequently inundated by floods and lacks facilities, making it less than representative.
“We did not have to procure any land; Pak Faonasekhi Lawolo donated two hectares of his land, and we are very grateful,” said Bobby, accompanied by Nias Regent Yaatulo Gulo.
For the first phase, the Governor said, the facilities to be built at SMK Negeri 1 Gido include the principal’s office, practice rooms, two classrooms, toilets, a water tower, and a borehole well.
In addition, supporting amenities will also be built, such as a podium, parking area, school environment roads, fencing, and other facilities.
As for access to the school, the North Sumatra Provincial Government has granted a budget of Rp5 billion to the Nias Regency Government for road construction.
“Once it is finished, it can be used straight away. As for the road leading here, we have already granted Rp5 billion to Nias Regency. So the regency will build the road,” said Bobby.
On that occasion, the Governor also awarded scholarships to three SMK Negeri 1 Gido students to continue their education at university.
“Wherever you want to study, we will help with scholarships. Note down their names, Head of the Provincial Education Office (Kadis),” said Bobby, referring to North Sumatra Provincial Education Office Head Alexander Sinulingga.
Faonasekhi Lawolo, who donated the land for SMK Negeri 1 Gido, said he was happy to be able to contribute to the development of a school in his village.
He hopes the new SMK Negeri 1 Gido will produce generations capable of advancing their region in the future.
“Hopefully, our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy this school. The better it gets, the smarter they will become. They can help advance our village and make it proud,” said Faonasekhi.
Fani Putri Zelita Gulo, a student at SMK Negeri 1 Gido, welcomed the construction of the new school with joy.
According to her, the school’s current condition is frequently affected by floods, disrupting daily teaching and learning activities.
“Whenever it rains, it floods, Sir. The floor is submerged, the roof leaks, so we cannot study. And the fish in the ponds for our laboratory were all swept away by the flood, so we had to restart our fish hatchery,” said Fani.
