Medan (ANTARA) - The Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, stated that transactions from the trade mission between North Sumatra and East Java have surpassed the figure of Rp2.58 trillion.

“As of this afternoon, it has reached Rp2.58 trillion. So, if I am speaking and there is still a crowd behind me, it means transactions could increase even further,” said Bobby during a press conference for the Trade and Investment Mission, themed “Enhancing Connectivity Networks between East Java and North Sumatra” in Medan on Tuesday.

The Governor welcomed the implementation of this trade mission between North Sumatra and East Java, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

According to him, the move is highly strategic because the benefits are not only felt by the local government but directly impact business owners and the community.

“We appreciate the Governor of East Java. This is an extraordinary idea, a trade mission between two provinces. The results are felt not just by the local government, but by the people because the transactions are direct,” Bobby explained.

The Governor also noted that the transactions recorded during the event represent activities at the business owner level before products are marketed or processed into value-added goods.

“There are products purchased as raw materials for processing, and there are also products purchased for export. This creates added value that will certainly improve in the future,” said Bobby.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, explained that the achievements of this trade mission demonstrate the market potential that can be developed through inter-regional trade cooperation.

According to Khofifah, one interesting aspect of this activity is the shift in supplier choices for several products; previously sourced from other provinces, they are now being supplied by businesses from East Java.

“What surprised us quite a bit is that transactions in the rice sector and downstream industries, ranging from chicken meat to eggs, have seen a very significant increase,” she said.

She also conducted a follow-up to understand the changes in trade patterns, finding that several businesses in North Sumatra are beginning to choose East Javanese products to meet market demands.

This indicates that inter-regional trade opportunities continue to grow and must be accompanied by market need mapping and the strengthening of business relationships between entrepreneurs.

“From the total recorded transactions, the poultry, meat, and egg sectors contributed a value of approximately Rp1.5 trillion. This transaction data will be managed by the respective provincial Departments of Industry and Trade,” Khofifah added.
