North Sumatra Governor Brings DPRD Members to Directly Inspect Development in Nias
Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution brought a number of North Sumatra DPRD members to see first-hand, and at the same time oversee, the implementation of development programmes in the Nias Islands.
“Not bringing them along, but they (North Sumatra DPRD members) wanted to accompany me. Yesterday they asked what I had been doing while working from Nias,” said Bobby in Gunungsitoli, North Sumatra, on Wednesday.
The governor said the presence of the North Sumatra DPRD members was part of the spirit of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches to accelerate regional development.
Seven North Sumatra DPRD members accompanied the North Sumatra Governor while working in Nias, including the Chair of Commission D of the North Sumatra DPRD, Timbul Jaya Hamonangan Sibarani, and the Secretary of Commission D, Defri Noval Pasaribu.
North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution is again carrying out the programme of working from the Nias Islands for five days from 5 to 9 August 2026, after previously doing so from 15 to 20 July 2026.
“Even though I had already told them, they wanted to see the situation on the ground for themselves. So we took them to see it together. They can also oversee our work in the field, and we are ready to be supervised. This is the spirit of collaboration,” Bobby stressed.
According to him, the programme of working from the Nias Islands is a breakthrough that has never been done by a previous North Sumatra Governor.
“This is the first governor to work from Nias. Previously it was only ordinary visits. We appreciate the governor’s spirit in developing underdeveloped regions, such as Nias and Sipiongot. This must be acknowledged, and we will continue to support it,” explained Timbul.
Secretary of Commission D of the North Sumatra DPRD, Defri Noval Pasaribu, assessed that the programme of working from the Nias Islands is a way for the provincial government to be closer to the community while directly understanding the problems faced by the region.
The presence of the North Sumatra Governor in the field, he continued, allows various issues ranging from infrastructure, education, health to other sectors to be addressed more quickly.
He assessed that collaboration between the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the North Sumatra DPRD is an important factor in ensuring development programmes run according to plan and provide benefits to the community.
He also confirmed that the North Sumatra DPRD continues to support programmes that have an impact on improving community welfare, such as free education for high school and vocational school students.
“The programme is expected to be expanded to all regencies and cities in North Sumatra as the region’s financial condition improves,” said Defri.
