North Sumatra Government Accelerates Industrial Development to Boost Regional Growth
Medan (ANTARA) - The Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, has emphasised that the North Sumatra Provincial Government is accelerating the development of industries and economic zones to serve as the primary engine for regional growth.
Bobby stated that these steps are expected to support national economic growth targets, including North Sumatra’s targeted contribution of approximately 6.7 to 7.1 per cent. “To achieve this target, cross-subsidies and increased investment are required,” said Bobby after receiving the board of directors of PT Danareksa (Persero) and PT Kawasan Industri Medan (Persero) at the Governor’s official residence on Monday.
Furthermore, he noted the need for strong collaboration between the central government, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), and Regional State-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) in developing business centres, economic hubs, and industrial zones within the region.
Data from the North Sumatra Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the North Sumatra economy grew by 4.53 per cent in 2025, which is lower compared to the 2024 achievement of 5.03 per cent.
“We are continuously evaluating our BUMDs to ensure we can maximise our available resources and assets,” he said. Bobby also mentioned that the North Sumatra Provincial Government is working to enhance professionalism to strengthen collaboration with BUMNs and the central government.
The provincial government has also prepared land for industrial zone development and is opening opportunities for cooperation with various companies. He added that accelerating investment realisation will have a direct impact on increasing economic activity and creating jobs in the region.
Notably, the North Sumatra Provincial Government is offering a plan to develop the North Sumatra Industrial Zone covering 2,500 hectares in Tanjung Kasau, Batu Bara Regency, subject to a minimum investment commitment of Rp1 trillion. “We sincerely hope that this cooperation and development can be realised as soon as possible, so that the impact of this development can be felt by the community more quickly,” said Bobby.
According to the President Director of Danareksa (Persero), Ngurah Wirawan, the central government will support spatial planning, while the implementation of development remains the authority of the regional government. He expressed optimism that the development of industrial and economic zones will serve as a lever for North Sumatra’s economic growth.
“We are ready to cooperate and have prepared several steps to follow up on the North Sumatra Provincial Government’s offer regarding new industrial development,” he explained. This includes vertical industrial development in urban areas and horizontal development in available industrial zones.
