North Sumatra Disaster Management Agency records 211 families displaced by Mount Sinabung eruption

Medan (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has recorded 211 heads of households displaced due to the eruption of Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency.

Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, Head of the Division of Emergency Response, Equipment, and Logistics at BPBD North Sumatra, stated that the data was compiled by the North Sumatra Disaster Management Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops).

She noted that the number of evacuees resulting from the Mount Sinabung eruption on Monday (31/08/2026) stands at 613 individuals.

‘Yuyun’, as she is commonly known, stated that the unfortunate event occurred in Kuta Tengah Village, Simpang Empat District.

As a result of the event, Yuyun said that visual and instrumental monitoring indicated an increase in Mount Sinabung’s activity, rising from Level II to Level III effective from 31 August 2026.

“Twenty-seven villages across five districts have been affected by volcanic ash,” she said.

According to Pusdalops North Sumatra, there have been no recorded injuries or fatalities resulting from the Mount Sinabung eruption. “The number of evacuees is currently listed as active data,” she added.

BPBD North Sumatra has previously undertaken various efforts, including the dispatch of seven evacuation tents for those affected by the eruption. “We have sent seven evacuation tents. Whether they are utilised depends on the Karo BPBD,” she remarked.
